Offline library
Apps and files to download once, while you have a signal, so a tablet or a USB stick still works later.
General information. Use it at your own risk. Follow the law. Seek a clinician, a licensed tradesperson, or the authorities when you can.
Written for a household in St. Johns County and northeast Florida. This is a planning aid. Orders, zones, and shelter instructions come from the county and the state.
Before
- Kiwix stores Wikipedia, WikiMed, and other references as ZIM packs. Install the app, then download the packs from the Kiwix library while you are online.
- OsmAnd and Organic Maps can keep a map on the phone. Install the app, search for Florida, and download that region. This website does not load map tiles.
- The ARRL getting-licensed page and the license manual are the ham study references. Download or buy them before you need a class.
- The American Red Cross First Aid app and the FEMA app are the two phone apps to install from the pages linked here.
- Download the free Hesperian editions of Where There Is No Doctor and Where There Is No Dentist onto the tablet. They are the references for care when a clinic is far away. They are not a license to perform surgery.
- Save Ready.gov kit pages, or the PDFs those pages offer, onto the tablet and onto a USB stick.
- A load list: charge the tablet, install the apps, download the packs and the Florida map, copy the PDFs to the USB stick, turn wifi off, and confirm each file still opens.
During
- Use the copies you already downloaded. Do not count on a store or a website.
- If the tablet battery is low, switch to the paper card and the USB stick in another device.
After
- Update the packs and the Florida map when you next have power and a signal.
- Replace a USB stick that will not mount. Keep the paper list of what is on it.
